Facilitating engagement that’s place-based, purpose-driven, and people-centered
As the state of Maryland’s flagship university located just outside the nation’s capital, the University of Maryland is uniquely positioned to affect change in communities on a local, national and global scale through an approach that is both collaborative and community-focused.

Who we are
The University of Maryland’s Center for Community Engagement connects the resources and talents of the university, people and communities, and facilitates connections and partnerships to support impact-driven and community-centered research, teaching and service that advances the public good.

What we do
At the Center for Community Engagement, we:
- Collaborate with our surrounding communities by developing mutually-beneficial partnerships to facilitate meaningful and sustainable change in College Park, Prince George’s County, the state of Maryland and beyond.
- Advance community-engaged research, teaching and learning by supporting and training our instructors and researchers to develop community, place and land-based approaches centered on trust, authenticity and reciprocity.
- Inspire a campus wide culture to Do Good by expanding opportunities across all colleges, schools, divisions and units for individuals who want to make a social impact.
- Amplify and expand our reach by documenting the university’s impact across communities to find and celebrate opportunities for engagement, collaboration and partnerships.
